How to Play The Piano with Both Hands - Beginner's Guide to Mastering this Crucial Technique.
Learn how to play the piano with both hands with this simple exercise and piece!
Find all of the FREE resources from this video at:
www.musictheoryacademy.com/how-to-play-piano/how-to-play-piano-with-both-hands/
So how do you play the piano with both hands? It looks impossible, right? Wrong!! Learning to play the piano with both hands is not difficult as long as you takes things slowly and realistically. As always, a bit of practice goes a long way to producing massive results!
The simple exercise I am going to show you in this video will introduce your brain to the concept of having both hands at the keyboard at the same time. As you work through the exercise you will find that it feels "natural" quite quickly to have both hands on the piano. The exercise develops your ability to play a simple 5 finger exercise using both left and right hands and then extends this to develop your ability to play the C major scale with left and right hands separately.
There are 2 pieces for you to learn in lesson 6 that directly follow on from the exercise and develop your ability to be able to play the piano with both hands. The 1st piece challenges you to play a piece of piano music with hands separately - your right hand and left hand will be at the keyboard at the same time, but will mostly play alternately.
The 2nd piece is a short piece of piano music that challenges you to be able to play with both hands at the same time. This is a challenging technique and so will require some practice of both the right hand and the left hand parts separately before an attempt is made to play the piece with both hands simultaneously. The piece has a slow tempo and the note lengths are only whole notes, half notes and quarter notes (semibreves, minims and crotchets) so this should give you an opportunity to play the piece.
As in all of the previous 5 beginner piano lessons in this course, a backing track is provided so that students are challenged to play the piano in time.

Cadences - The 4 types explained - Perfect, Plagal, Imperfect, Interrupted
Very nice
im confused about the cadence use and the functions of subdominant and so because i understand this is tonal music????
That end result was a Dungeon Synth masterpiece
Good luck in music gcse today guys!
I don’t know nothing about music at this level but still understood what it means, you are a win explaining this 👏🏼
How come some of the notes were blurred?
Finally a video that explains the parts i had an issue with!
I’ve never heard my name so many times I was decided in 8th grade that I am a deceptive Cadence
Wooow! Gentle Breeze is awesome!
Excellent video, thank you Ben!
Thank you 😊 sir...I can identify cadences❤
thank you for still posting <3
Here after watching MLP Season 2 finale. There's a song in it where a doppelganger character sings in a deceptive cadence and the real one sings in a perfect cadence and I just had to know what that means lol.
That Mozart excerpt sounds like Glass. His Glassworks One is pretty much seven minutes of 3 against 2 and kind of easy to get out of sync.
Here are melodies associated with cadences! Plagel- Amen Perfect - Give A Little Bit Deceptive- Beauty and the Beast intro Imperfect- To be continued
Anyone else bothered that he didn't play the g#/c# fourth after he explained it?
Those three instruments all seem to be in the same, or similar, registers or octaves. Do you know whether this is the case?
Organum sounds so cohesive. I love it.
You really need to boost your audio before you process and output your videos.
Finally got the understanding of it
Me
Thank you Ben. Well explained in a very simple and easy to understand way.
Beautifully explained. Thank you 🙏.
What is a blue note
I grew up going to Catholic Church as a kid and have heard hundreds of hymns, which majority of the time end like this! I never knew what the word was for “Picardy Third” until now. I always called it “the satisfying ending” 🤣 thank you for helping me expand my musical vocabulary!
Interesting Stuff.. If my Doctor told me that I had a " Horizontal Hemeola " I would have been very worried 🤡
Wow, this video is almost as old as me 😭
my higher music exam is tomorrow and you have saved my ass, thanks <3
Thank you very much ✨🙏✨
Thank you so much for this lesson
Wonderful explanation of a Cadence. Thank you!
Thanks so much Ben
What is the corresponding rest for quavers
Thank you, good lesson
I start from the bottom, and curve upward in a continuous movement. However, this looks good, too.
This answered my exact question, thanks so much man!
So good
I know I'm commenting this really late in time, but this helped me in my studies, whoever the name is of the person who made this video, thank you!
You also get, on some notes, two dots after. Now isn't a second dot signifying a duration of an extra 25%? So, 50% + 25% = a total of 75% duration?
I am happy with this video because it makes me learn more about baroque music
Is it relevant to the broken chords?
Doesn’t a phrase imply that it is finished? I’m confused, as always.
So when I'm riding my lyrics in between the time after the chorus to the next verse I have always labeled as a rest, so that is incorrect? I intended for it to be a time that only the instrumentals played like there was no vocals it was just instrumentals.
Is cadence ending on the 3 of any scale only used for key changes?
Now explain it using a violin 🤡
Thank you. That was wonderful and clear
What a banger video yay music 🤡
Splendidly organized and factual presentation, very easy and enjoyable to follow.
8 modes? I think they are 7 only( ionian, dorian, phrygian, lydian, and mixolydian, aeolian and Locrian) did I miss something?
So you're referring to the 7 modes of the modern Diatonic scale. This is different to the 8 medieval modes.
@@adamjacksonmedia could you tell me what I'm missing, what are the 8 medieval modes?
@@budyemad3341 Dorian, Hypodorian, Phrygian, Hypophrygian, Lydian, Hypolydian, Mixolydian, and Hypomixolydian.
My Goldfish are named Major, Minor, Dorian, Lydian and Diminished. The only way I can tell them apart is by their scales.
